Earthquake Engineering

The objective of the earthquake engineering research, within the Centre, is to gain knowledge of the nature and effect of earthquakes. The main areas of research are:

  • Mathematical modelling of earthquakes
  • Measurements
  • Earthquake loading
  • System identification of structures
  • Earthquake mitigation in complex structures
  • Risk analysis of structures
  • Earthquake resistance of hydroelectric power plants
  • Earthquake resistance of lifelines

Service

In addition to basic research, the Earthquake Engineering Research Centre conducts research in the field of industry.

The Earthquake Engineering Research Centre also operates a measurement system to collect data that forms the basis of earthquake risk management and earthquake design.

The Earthquake Engineering Research Centre is responsible for training students in fields closely related to earthquake engineering.

In addition, the EERC provides information to the public on the effects of earthquakes and earthquake safety.
